Not the best, not the worst -- and a little too gory

Thankless in Death - J.D. Robb

There's no mystery here. Both we and Eve know who the killer is from the beginning. And we get an awful vivid look at his killing ways, which made the book a little hard going for me, at least through the first half. The rest of the book is Eve and her team racing to find the killer before he gets to anyone else. Meanwhile, Thanksgiving is days away and there's lots of the same old stuff about how hard it is for Eve to deal with holidays and family. After 40+ books, it's not surprising when it gets a little stale, but I still enjoy the world of Eve and Roarke nonetheless. 3-1/2 stars is about right for this one.
